Our first chicken dinner from the land!

Our first chicken dinner from the land!

It was an historic meal for us this weekend!  We had our first chicken dinner with a meat bird that we raised on our land!  For me this was the culmination of a LOT of research and work.  We decided to start small and slaughter a few birds on Saturday.  Of course I will spare you the gory details.  It's not fun to kill anything really but it is a necessary part of eating and I was prepared to do it before I ever got started with this idea.  So the processing of the birds went well and we are glad we started with just a few since we learned a LOT and now feel confident about the larger slaughter that's coming.  I roasted the bird and it was DELICIOUS!  We all enjoyed it!  It's is also a satisfying feeling to be able to provide for my family in such a direct and tangible way.

I couldn't resist sharing how I cooked the bird so here is my own recipe.

Brewer credit union School supply Drive

The Brewer Federal Credit Union is holding a school supply drive to benefit students who may need a little help in affording the required supplies they will need this year.  Last year, we were able to make a supply donation for every town in our charter.  With your help, we hope to make this year as successful as last.

We will be accepting donated school supplies for kids of all ages at the North Main Street and Dirigo Drive Branches from July 18th – August 26th.

We have been so fortunate to be able to count on the generosity of our members, volunteers, and staff.  We are committed to continuously working toward our goal of an ever present community spirit.

Mid Coast Hospital Chosen as One of Maine’s 'Preferred' Providers

Mid Coast Hospital was recognized today as one of just five hospitals in Maine, and the only hospital in the Greater Brunswick area, for demonstrating sustained high performance over five years by the Maine State Employee Health Commission.  The Commission’s Executive Director, Frank Johnson attended a presentation ceremony this morning at Mid Coast Hospital, where he recognized the health care provider as a “Preferred Tier 1 Hospital” for their consistent high marks in quality, patient safety, and clinical experience.

Johnson’s remarks pinpointed the health care priorities that are required to establish preferred provider status.
