The 80th Anniversary Season at the Ogunquit Playhouse kicks off with Always, Patsy Cline

The 80th Anniversary Season at the Ogunquit Playhouse kicks off with Always, Patsy Cline, on stage from May 23 through June 16. This show is told through the letters of star-struck fan Louise Seger, portrayed by Emmy Award winning actress, Sally Struthers. This popular musical, which has enjoyed great success both off-Broadway and across the nation, is based on the true story of Cline’s friendship with Seger, who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in l961 and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death. Featuring the unforgettable hits of the Country Music mega-star, this funny and touching tribute celebrates the career and life of the singer who died tragically in a plane crash in 1963.

National Charter Schools Week – Maine has joined the movement

In 2011, Maine joined 40 other states in allowing public charter school options for families of all income levels.  On May 1, 2012, the Maine Charter School Commission issued its first application package for potential founders of these new public education options, which are free to parents and open to all children without admissions tests.

The Maine Association for Charter Schools (MACS) will celebrate the great work accomplished by public charter schools across the country, where over 5,000 public chartered schools are serving 1.8 million students.

Chicken Hatch Part 5 - They're HERE!

Chicken Hatch Part 5 - They're HERE!

The chicks are here!  They arrived one day early!  All four hatched out with the most beautiful of hues and markings.  They are Auracana's so they don't look anything like their surrogate mom.  It is such a blessing to watch this miracle of life unfolding right before our eyes!  Broody accepted them right away and is doing a nice job mothering them and taking care of them!  Enjoy the video!  It's priceless!

Sagadahoc County Recognizes Birth Defects Prevention Month and Folic Acid Awareness Week

January is National Birth Defects Prevention Month.

Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention states that, “Major birth defects are conditions that cause structural changes in one or more parts of the body; are present at birth; and have a serious, adverse effect on heath, development, or functional ability.“ Approximately one in every 33 babies is born with a birth defect.

This year, National Birth Defects Prevention Month focuses on one of the most common types of birth defects, congenital heart defects. Each year, nearly 40,000 infants in the United States are born with heart defects, which are the leading cause of death during the first year of life. As medical care and treatment have improved, those with congenital hearth defects are living longer lives.

January 8-14 is National Folic Acid Awareness Week.

Not all birth defects can be prevented.

This will be the juried creatives fair of Rockland, where artists, artisans, craftspeople, and foodies can sell their wares to folks who are looking for the perfect gift for friends, family and coworkers.  Maybe for themselves, too!

We will be located in the gym of the Lincoln Street Center, 24 Lincoln Street, with over 50 booths!
