What is Mesothelioma?

What is Mesothelioma?

No doubt you've seen commercials about mesothelioma and know that it is usually caused by exposure to asbestos and that there a lots of law firms in the country eager to represent victims. Have you ever met someone with mesothelioma? I haven't, but I was recently contacted by Cameron Von St. James, whose wife Heather was diagnosed with it seven years ago. He wanted to know if I would be interested in sharing their story on my Catching Health blog. At my request, he sent me additional information. When I started reading it, I quickly realized that they both write for a mesothelioma web site sponsored by a law firm, which raised a red flag for me. I told him so and decided that I needed to think carefully about how to proceed. My conclusion was Heather Von St.

Homemade Fish Fry!

Homemade Fish Fry!

I made fish sticks for my family the other night and though it would be a good video for Nate's Kitchen so I documented the process on video!  I'm using about a pound of cod for this recipe but any firm, white fish will do.  Enjoy!

Welcome Spring By Starting a Container Garden

Welcome Spring By Starting a Container Garden

The M.O.G. is excited to embark on a new adventure this spring by documenting the process of planting an organic vegetable garden (in containers) for the first time. Maybe it will inspire a few of you to plant your own gardens as well! Now, just so we are all clear, we are not what anyone would consider "gardening experts." To be honest, gardening seemed like another language… until we started doing some research and realized how simple and enjoyable it can be. We checked out a few websites including “Successful Container Gardens” by the University of Illinois Extension, and the University of Maine Cooperative Extension where they have some really helpful videos on container gardening that walked us right through the process.

Movies: "Admission"

Movies: "Admission"

Unlike most of the rest of the country, I went to see “Admission.”

That is because the movie is set at Princeton University, my (ahem) alma mater.  In this, I was not disappointed.  The scenes of the sun-dappled campus, an appearance by the A capella group The Nassoons, and the sense that this is a truly place where really bright students study really great stuff were all pleasing.

Unfortunately, the movie was not so much.

Weight Loss Surgery: Becky Sawtelle Two Months Later

Weight loss surgery is a big deal. Sometimes, confesses Becky Sawtelle, she thinks if she had to do it over again, she might not opt for the weight loss surgery she had two months ago. Her issue? “I had a really strong relationship with food,” she says. “Now, I can’t eat whatever, whenever, and how much I want. I miss that.”
